I have always had interest in culture and the arts. My parents taught my siblings and myself to learn to appreciate culture. From a young age, us children spent many-a-day taking turns going with Dad to the Symphony, the Repertory Theater, or the Opera Theater. We also frequented the Art Museum and History Museum in Forest Park. These childhood activities shaped me into the culturally-rounded and articulate person that I am today.
My major interest is music. I absolutely love music. I really don’t know what I would do without music if it did not exist. I am a self-proclaimed “music nerd”. In actuality, I like almost all genres of music, including rock, alternative, classical, and some popular music. I am not much of a fan of country music or rap/hip-hop/r&b, but will still give it a try. My favorite genre is classic rock. I LOVE the music of the 1960’s and 1970’s; especially the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Creedence Clearwater Revival, CSNY, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and the Rolling Stones. Modern-day music also interests me; mostly in the rock and alternative genres. Modern bands I like include ska/punk Streetlight Manifesto, the Fratellis, Modest Mouse, Of Montreal, Oasis, and Sugarcult. I am always on the look-out for good music suggestions from friends and others who are interested in music as much as I am. Recently, I got into a funky soul band called Monophonics, as well as a band called Tame Impala. Another thing I enjoy about music is the symbolism and culture that goes along with it. That is particularly why I enjoy John Lennon’s music so much. John Lennon, to me, is a symbol of what this world should be about: PEACE. His music speaks to me; as does Bob Dylan and Neil Young. I like music and lyrics that I can truly relate to and can gain some meaning from within. Those three really do the trick for me in that respect.
Art is another passion of mine. I was active in art during my senior year of high school. I started my undergrad education in art, but decided to pursue other interests. I mostly enjoy graphic arts as well as still-life drawings. I would like to get into more painting and do more art. My art is posted in a photo gallery on this website.
I do like history as well. There is something about learning the roots of our human race and the interactions and events of the past. I am frequent visitor to the Missouri History Museum in Forest Park. I enjoy mostly learning about the Victorian era at the turn of the 20th century, and also World War II history. And, of course, the 1960’s is a major historical interest also.
